We all have those tasks that feel like a Groundhog Day loop, right?
Inputting the same data, formatting cells, or even sending out routine emails. It’s a time sink!
But with utilizing FileDrop extension in Google Sheets, you can create scripts or use built-in functions that do the heavy lifting for you.
No more manual copy-pasting or endless cell formatting. It’s like having a personal assistant dedicated to the mundane, leaving you with more time for the tasks that truly need your attention.
Now, what makes automation using FileDrop extension different from Google Sheets automation?
Although Google Sheets offers built-in automation features, these features are more generalized and cover a broad range of tasks.
FileDrop Extension’s overall prominent feature is that it helps you with tasks whose requirements go beyond what’s usual and caters specific and detailed needs without having to spend so much time and effort on how to do so.
Select and insert multiple files in your Google Sheets
If you also want to do a lot in less time, let’s say uploading multiple files in a sheet, FileDrop can do that as well!
You don’t have to go to each box and upload files one by one. You can just click multiple files and they will upload simultaneously while being placed to the respective cells of your liking.

Extract Text from PDF Files with FileDrop
One standout feature of FileDrop that adds to its brilliance is the OCR (Optical Character Recognition) capability. With this feature, extracting text from the uploaded PDF files becomes a breeze.
Forget about the tedious manual copy-pasting or the cumbersome task of splitting screens to type information; FileDrop does it for you!
Imagine you’re in the process of hiring for your company, and you want to consolidate applicants’ information in one convenient sheet rather than navigating through individual hyperlinks. Here’s a simple guide on how to achieve this seamlessly:
- Upload the file through the File Drop Extension.
Once you click that, you will be directed to this interface.
Now you can upload the file either from your computer or through your drive.
The uploaded file will then look like this
- Click the OCR icon found on the upper left corner of the file to have the text extracted.
You can then choose to copy all the extracted information or just pick out the information you want to be encoded into your file. Click “Copy” and then click the cell where you want the information to be placed.
- You can also opt to have the text placed in one cell instead.
Under the OCR Text Settings, choose “All Text in 1 cell” than “Text as line in a new cell”
Now, you don’t have to skim files and copy-paste the information you need into the sheets.
- You can also have the information translated using the “Translate” feature found in the lower right corner of the box.
It can then accommodate your needs by having the information ready in the language you prefer.
4. Extract Text from Images
Say goodbye to the monotony of manual data extraction from images; FileDrop introduces a dynamic feature that streamlines the process.
Easily transfer files or images from your folder directly into your sheets, all while being automatically organized in one central location.
Let’s delve into how you can make the most of this functionality:
- Go to the Start FileDrop tab.
- Choose the “Drive” tab then pick a folder that you want to be uploaded to your sheets.
- Click the, “Insert all files” tab to upload all the files from the folder.
Witness the magic unfold as FileDrop meticulously organizes the information based on file name, download details, size, URL, and even describes the image along with a preview.
No more tedious manual data entry; FileDrop simplifies the process, leaving you with more time for meaningful tasks.
Bottom line…
Automating tasks in Google Sheets is a game-changer; but using FileDrop extension is revolutionary for your productivity.
